ONE STORY, ONE COMMUNITY, ONE VISION
Our Story
The PFBL Scholarship Fund Inc was established in 2006 to use basketball to motivate low income youths to pursue their dreams of going to college. Building upon many of these youth’s passion for basketball, the scholarship fund employs the sport as a means to instill in them the importance and rewards of education. To date, the PFBL Scholarship Fund, Inc. has awarded nearly $160,000 to more than 320 New York City metropolitan area high school graduates.
Our Community
The heart of our community is embodied in our Annual Harlem Community Outreach Program, featuring young adults age group 11-16 years from the Mid-Atlantics states,. Baltimore, MD; Camden, NJ; Norwalk, CT; and the Harlem, NY community. The Fund also conducts activities for pre-high-school students to promote the importance of education as well as non-academic skills necessary for success in education in conjunction with sports. Building upon many of these youths’ passion for basketball, the Scholarship Fund employs sports as a means to instill in them the importance and rewards of education.
Our Vision
The ultimate goal for our organization is to foster a partnership with each and every one of our scholars. As of now, we are able to award each person with a one-time scholarship, but as we grow, it is our hope to support our scholars through all four years of college. In this, we intend to create a partnership where each recipient helps us create opportunities for other students in our community. We understand that it takes all of us working together to help each other succeed.
